The below list of houses/buildings show who or what was associated with them going back about 30 years plus, but in living memory. Montreaux Lawrence Ellis – Robert Ellis’s dad. Dearlove’s uncle. They had a daughter called Joan Ellis as well as her brother Robert. Montreaux also belonged to the Morpeth family who owned the shoe shop in Ripon probably about 1980’s
East View David Richmond bought in 1950’s. Daughters-Mary, Ethal and Jean. Ethel married George Duffield, son of Duffields who had the
Post Office. Jean married Brian Rushforth and she ran the Post Office when it moved to North View
Turnways Maggie Richmond? Originally 2 cottages
Ethel and George Duffield. They moved from Turnways to the bungalow to the rear which was built for them on their land. Also ‘Father’ David- lived there with them. He must have been David Richmond. The bungalow now belongs to the Taylors

Leslie & Eva Peacock – John’s mum and dad.
In the 1960’s, rented to Americans from Menwith Hill.
Baytree Cottage Moorhouse. Previously Miss Buckle
Hill Crest 1930’s rented by Simon Stubbs and Sannie ( Elizabeth Annie) Stubbs, their son Harker Stubbs also there and he bought it + the farm and land at the back in 1954. Harker married nurse Child from Jasmine Cottage- one daughter, Ilona. The farm consisted of the stone Cowbyre also 2 large hen houses +small ones and hay barn in the paddock area behind it. Smalley’s took it over in 1996.
Wayside Mrs Varo Owned the dairy. Mr Ashby lived there, then it was sold to Bob & Joan Ellis who were teachers and lived there in the 60-70’s. then Simon Crosfield bought it followed by Mrs Buggy. It was originally a grain store.
West End Bob and Florrie Waite. Parents of Donnie,
Ruth (?), Doreen and Ray. Doreen married Mick Mudd.
Ryedale William Blackburn lived here with Marleen David and Linda.

Ivy Cottage Harry Barton. Worked at the dairy.
John, son, married Joyce Richmond.
South View Mr Woodcock Delivered milk by pony and cart to Grewelthorpe.
Mr Balon, Mr Hogg, Bridgford. Retired policeman
The Woodpeckers Buckles Shop. Alice and Annie Buckle ran this shop. Mrs Elizabeth Drewery had it later.

Yew Tree Farm Pearsons Farmhouse. Tom and Alice(nee Mawer) Clarke farmed here for a lot of years.
Used to be loads of mushrooms growing in the field over from the back lane.
The fold yard was surrounded by the cow house, hay barns, calf houses etc.
Also large battery hen building.
owned by Ivan and ?Betty? Simpson after Tom & Alice Clarke. They moved from the farm that was originally opposite the bottom shop. They sold it to Atkinson/Verity in the 1980’s

1 Rose Cottage Maureen Nelson (Kempsters) mum and dad. Mum was a hard working cleaner.
2 Rose Cottage Freda Webster Ann Ellis owned both 1 and 2. Tom Kirkham. Worked for Dearlove Ellis
Arundo Fred Whitton. Postman. Used to eat dandelion sandwiches on his round.
Briza George & Ethel Atkinson (Boy). Sid’s brother. Ethel was heavily involved with the W.I.

Sunnyside Cottage Charlie Thirkill – Tommy’s brother. Pot Shop also sold wallpaper. Run by Mrs Thirkill – husband was a plumber. Archway to blacksmith’s shop.

Shoulder of Mutton Purses; Mr W Richmond Garage was long, thin building to the right. Deveraux. Possibly a fish shop to the right of the building. Mrs Bumstead.

Starling Cottage Jasmine Cottage, Starling Cottage and Carl House along with land next to Carl House all belonged to the Umpleby’s from Dallowgill. Jasmine and Starling were rented out and Lennard and Kate Umpleby lived at Carl House ( now Ingeldene). When they moved out the family rented the house out and daughter lived in the bungalow they built at the back in the field.
Jasmine Cottage Nurse Child lived here briefly in the 1950’s then married Harker Stubbs (became nurse Stubbs) and moved to Hillcrest. Then Mr Dunsforth – did embroidery. Worked at the dairy. Wore glittery waistcoats!
