messuage etc belonging and of the further part of all that close, North Cl. divided
into 3 parts, 5A and close in Larton in Manor of K. M. “Elsleys Croft” 1A 1 rood
together with one cottage and apts situated at the Mizes (Misses) in K. M. together
with one yard and one Intacke, 1A.
All which premises now or late in tenure Samuell Elsley.

(Yorkshire Historical Dictionary, mulcture. This spelling of ‘multure’ arose
through confusion with the verb ‘to mulct’ that is to exact a fine. 1674 in mulcts
imposed on Mr Diggle and Dr Lloyd for their absences, Ripon.)

presents then this obligation void”

Fawber. Cov[enant] for £20 to rest in my hands to service me against his wife’s
Joynture or thirds [shares] WHEREAS Gregory Elsley of North Closes, near
Kirkby Malzeard, Notary Publique, hath lately purchased of John Fawber of
K. Malzeard, Yeoman and Elizabeth his wife, and George Fawber their sonne
and Heyre [Heir] apparent for £250 all their messuages, cottages, freehold,
copyhold, customary Lands, Tenements, Herids [hereditaments] and leasehold
whatsoever or wheresoever within the Manor etc of Kirkby Malzeard and
WHEREAS Gregory Elsley hath paid John Fawber his wife and sonne the sum
of £170 in part of the said purchase money and also given the said John Fawber
the security by bond for £60 more, payable the 11th day of November next after
the date hereof. Arrangements given regarding payment, rights of Dower etc £20
to remain in possession of Gregory Elsley until…….etc

“I Gregory Elsley of North Closes, Kirkby Malzeard, Notarie Publique bound to
John Fawber of Kirkby Malzeard Yeoman £120.”
3rd May 1703
John Fawber over his son George’s bond to me for £20. This is to be security
against John Fawber’s wife claiming any share or dower. John Fawber of
Kirkby Malzeard, Yeoman and George Fawber of Ringbeck, glover bound to
Gregory Elsley of North Closes, Gent, in £40. If John Fawber or George Fawber
pay unto Gregory Elsley £20 on 3rd August next, then this obligation void.
